Check out this cool article the Rare Reminder wrote off of a piece Arbor Al sent in to the editor.

Ash trees are found all over our state, perhaps even in your own back yard.  They are under threat from the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB).  This is an invasive insect which has been working its way across the country mainly via firewood transportation.  It is important to never bring firewood for camping out of state due to these types of dangers.

The EAB adult looks like a green beetle half an inch long.  The larvae is the damaging stage of the pest.

The adult emerges to mate and lay eggs.  These eggs hatch and the larvae bore into the bark to eat the living tissue under the tree.  This disrupts food and nutrient flow in the tree which starves the tree.  These trees will die if left untreated.
